A Note from Mary
I have asked the editors not to publish the actual brutal accounts of my father's murder on this site. Available below are links to some of the many news accounts. Other stories may be accessed by using Proctor R. Bright, in the Internet's search navigation bar. I believe that the details surrounding his death are a part of history, but that his story, his life, and the changes he helped to bring about as a civic leader, community organizer, businessman, and family man are so much more valuable. In my healing, I have asked God for grace and mercy for both families afflicted by this horrible crime. Though deeply wounded by my father’s death, I gather strength from knowing that he went home to be with the Lord. This is peace that surpasses all understanding. I am grateful for his steadfastness, his Christian walk, his integrity, a great father, but most of all that he and my mother relentlessly taught me how to love and forgive with my whole heart. Until now, I didn’t know I knew this. I have learned that forgiveness is what I extend to others for my benefit, my level of happiness, my peace of mind, and my wholeness. This took many lonesome months to fully realize. May God make his face to shine upon you and be with you always.
